Lizard Pictures

Five Lined Skink

This is a male Five Lined Skink. You can also tell its spring time because his head is red. This photograph was taken in LA (that's Lower Alabama).

Five lined Skink

This is a female Five lined Skink near Wetumpka Alabama.

Five Lined Skink

This one is a hatchling. They loose that blue tail as they mature. The picture was taken near Camden Alabama.

Beaded Lizard

This is the Beaded Lizard from Montgomery Zoo. This is of course one of 2 venomous lizards in the world. They are native to western Mexico.

Black and White Tegu

The closest thing we have to a monitor in the western hemisphere is the Tegu of South America. This is one of the breeder lizards at Agama International.

Caimen Lizards

Another very cool lizard from the zoo in Nashville. What I think is so cool about these is they eat large Apple Snails. To do this they have very flat teeth that are molar-like to crush the snails.

Crocodile Monitors

These are to small Crocodile Monitors at the Houston Zoo. This is the longest of the lizards! The famous Komodo Dragon is not longer, but it is heavier. These lizards are moslty arboreal (lives in trees) while the adult Komodos spend thier time on the ground.

Crocodile Lizard

A very cool looking lizard. I don't remember what zoo I took this picture at, Maybe Atlanta.

Desert Monitor

From Zoo Atlanta I think....

Fence Lizard

It was a chilly day and I found this guy under some bark in near Union Springs Alabama. He let me take a bunch of close ups of him (too cold to run away). In fact I came back to that site about 3 hours later and he just moved up the tree about 2 feet.

Baby Fence Lizard

This picture of a baby Fence Lizard was taken at Eufala National Wildlife Refuge in Alabama.

Fiji Banded Iguana

Probably one of the most striking lizards in the world, the highly endangered Fiji Island Banded Iguana. This picture is from Houston as well.

Green Anole

This lizard was photographed on my parents house near Houston Texas (yes I said ON the house, the lizard was on the roof and I stood on a fence to get this picture!) This lizard was displaying his throat fan and I kept missing it. This lizards is commonly, but mistakingly called the American Chameleon. It is not related to chameleons and is closer to iguanas.

Lace Monitor

I do love monitor lizards. I wish I had more room for some! I'll have to settle for taking pictures of them. This beautiful lace monitor is at the Houston Zoo.

European legless lizard

I don't know what species this is and I'm sorry for the poor picture (I had a cheap point and shoot camera back then). It was taken after a hike in the Italian Alps near Recoaro Italy.

Bearded Dragon

This little dragon is in the defensive posture. His way of saying, "Get that camera out of my face!"

A female Green Iguana

Compare this with the next picture to see the difference between male and female iguanas. This is for adults only, you can't determine sex in a juvenile iguana.

A Male Green Iguana

You can see the large jowls and long dorsal (back) spines that are characteristic of male iguanas.

Rhinocerous Iguana

A large male Rhino Iguana from the Houston Zoo.

Shield Tailed Agama

Tiny lizards, but very interesting looking.

Head picture of an Egyptian Uromastyx

This picture was taken at Zoo Atlanta. Egyptian uromastyx are the largest of the Uromastyx lizards, commonly reaching over 24 inches long.

Yellow Spotted Monitor

Varanus melinus This is still a young monitor. This species was recently discovered.
